Question by Kaleigh: Do ya'll think I'm too big for this horse? I thought I would never ask this question on here hahaha. Anyways I ride at a semi-private barn where I'm training two horses for a friend of mine who happens to be the barn manager. Anyways the owner of the place just got two new horses from auction about a week ago or two. They are just the most beautiful, sweetest little things. One is a 4 year old sorrel quarter horse, great grandson of Two Eyed Jack and I'm pretty sure he's got Zippo Pine Bar in there too. I haven't looked at his pedigree, I'm just going from what I can remember of what Bobby (owner) told me. He's about 15.3, but probably closer to 16hh so I'm not worried about him. The other horse he got is a little 14 year old stocky built dun quarter horse. Gentle and as sweet as could be. We measured him last night and he stands at about 14.1-14.2. We're going on a trail ride this Sunday and I'm thinking about riding one of Bobby's horses just for a change of scenery, you know, always fun to ride a new horse. Bobby will probably be riding his paint gelding, so that leaves us the two new ones. Anyways my boyfriend might come with us, he can ride pretty well, but he's 6'3" and longer than freakin stretch armstrong...So I'm definitely gonna have to put him on the sorrel horse. I'd really like to try the dun gelding out but I'm afraid I might be too big for him, not weight wise, but I'm 5'7" and fairly long waisted/legged...What do you think? Should I try him out or stick with the barrel mare I've been riding? Best answer for Do ya'll think I'm too big for this horse?:

Unless this horse is somehow light boned, and frail (Which I highly doubt) you should be just fine. Right now, I'm finishing a 14.3 three year old, and I'm 5'10" with really long legs, so you won't look any more silly than I do when I ride him around. :P

I would say yes, To ride him briefly is not a problem. As for trail rides that's some thing else. It would most likely be fine but if your planning to do more then walking then I would recommend taking some thing you know is comfortable to take you. Sorry I feel bad saying it as I hate being told I'm to big but it doesn't mean you cant have fun :)

You're fine. I'm 5'7 and I ride a 13 hand pony in training. So we don't even do short rides. Especially if this horse is stocky you will be absolutely fine.

You should be fine - my loan's 13.3hh and I'm 5ft 6 with pretty long legs. The only time I really notice it is bareback, apart from that I really can't say I have an issue.
