Jaguar, the renowned British luxury car maker no longer is British! It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. and is operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business.

The name "Jaguar" was created after World War 2, originally it was Swallow Sidecar Company, which use to make motorcycle sidecars. Following a merger with the British Motor Corporation in 1968, which was subsequently bought out by Leyland, which itself was later nationalised as British Leyland, Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984.

Jaguar made its name by producing a series of extremely eye-catching sports cars, the XK 120 of 1949, developed into XK 140 and XK 150, and the E Type of 1961.

In 1989 Jaguar was acquired by Ford, when some say the misfortune of the once Pride of British Auto manufacturers started falling into trouble.

Ford were all about mass production, make them and cheap sell large quantities, something Jaguar as a brand did not believe in.

Ford sold Land Rover and Jaguar in 2007 to Tata Motors Ltd. During Ford's ownership of the prestigious British brand it failed to make any profit. On 2 June 2008, the sale to Tata was completed at a cost of £1.7 billion. The sale included the rights to three other British brands, Daimler, Lanchaster and Rover.
